Appointment of Secretary General to the President

The Government have announced that, following consultation with the President, Mr Adrian O’Neill, who is at present Director-General of Anglo-Irish Division in the Department of Foreign Affairs, has been appointed as Secretary General to the President.

The appointment arises from the retirement of Mr. Tim O’Connor as Secretary General to the President. Mr. O’Connor has completed a career of 36 years in the Civil Service and has worked in the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commissions and the Department of 

Foreign Affairs. He has served as Secretary General to President McAleese since March 2007.

Mr O’Neill will take up duty in March. A copy of his C.V. is below.
